The Witch King's sword from Lord of The Rings
The Carolina Jaybirds enjoy playing dominoes!
Barnyard RV Park, Feb. 2003 Trip Report
February 2003
Barnyard RV Park, Lexington, SC

Our February 2003 campout was the first of the
year due to the unusually wet, icy and cold winter.
We gathered Friday night in the campground's
meeting room, which was well equipped with a
tv, many chairs, a sink/kitchenette area (with
toaster oven), a large dining table and several
folding tables. We spent hours there catching up
with each other and playing dominoes (for the first time as a group).

The plan for Saturday was to go to the Columbia Zoo as a group, but cold rain and high winds kept us at the campground. Many of us walked to the flea market in front of the campground and did some shopping. I could have spent hours in the used books booth--it was bigger than some used book stores I've been to! The large hardware store area and many of the craft booths were also popular with the group. What did I buy? The Witch King's sword from Lord of The Rings. Yes, a sword.

Saturday night we had a covered dish meal and our meeting, including the long-postponed Christmas party. The ladies exchanged gifts, then we had our annual brown-bag auction. Each camper filled a brown paper grocery bag with various items then closed it. The bags were auctioned unopened as a fund-raiser for the club. Contents varied, from Christmas decorations, to useful camping items, to the most popular item--a stuffed cow that sang and danced the Chicken Dance. After the festivities, we played more dominoes. We enjoyed the campground so much we decided to come back for an unofficial campout in the Fall. Hopefully the weather then will allow us to go to the zoo!

Summary: good location, nice meeting room, well-kept full hookup campsites, clean bath-house (although a little far from the sites). It's called "Barnyard" for a reason--I saw some geese and other farm animals. We plan to return!
