Deer Creek turned out to be a great place to camp! It had nice, level gravel sites, very clean bathrooms and laundry facilities, and a good-sized meeting room. It bordered a golf park with a driving range, par-3 course, and mini-golf.
On Saturday some of the group played the par-3 course and had a great time visiting the cheese factory. We grilled out for dinner, then a few of us went to the driving range. A local golf pro was there at the same time and gave us lots of help and advice!
I think we set a course record on Sunday--ten of us played the 9 hole par-3 course and it took 4 hours! It had poured rain most of the week before, so the ground was very soggy, and most of us were beginning golfers.
On Sunday night our first attempt at playing mini-golf ended halfway through the game with a downpour. We took refuge under the driving range shelter to wait it out, but it just wouldn't end! The owner of the golf park was kind enough to loan us umbrellas and invited us to come back and finish our game Monday morning. |
